The Chinese Embassy in Uganda offers Makerere University 30 scholarships to be awarded to continuing students in various Colleges each Academic Year. The scholarships which commenced in the 2018/2019 academic year are administered by the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate (GMD), Makerere University. The total scholarship offer is UGX2,800,000 (Two million, eight hundred thousand shillings only). Renewal is subject to review.
Makerere University entered a partnership with The MasterCard Foundation to offer scholarships to 1,000 academically bright but economically disadvantaged youth from Africa to study at Makerere University from 2013 to 2023.
Makerere University Female Scholarship Foundation (FSF) was born out of the Female Scholarship Initiative (FSI) established at Makerere University in 2001 with support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The goal of FSI was to support girls from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds to access university education thus contributing to the increased female enrollment at the University.
