Makerere University welcomes International Students who satisfy the minimum entry requirements-see weighting system and Diploma holders’ requirements for Advanced Level and Diploma holders’ applicants respectively here.

  1. Applicants should access the Institution’s Admissions URL https://apply.mak.ac.ug
  2. Signup using full name, e-mail and Mobile Number.  Please note that your name must be similar to the one on your supporting academic documents for your application to be considered valid.  If you changed your names physically visit the Senate Building Office 611 with a deed poll and gazette supporting the name change. Applicants from abroad may contact the International Office using details in the panel below.
  3. A password will be sent to both your e-mail and mobile number.
  4. The system will prompt you to change the password to the one you can easily remember.
  5. To fill a form (all form sections must be filled)the applicant clicks on the APPLY NOW button displayed on the running scheme.
  6. Obtain a pay reference nunber(PRN)  after submitting the application.
  7. Pay the Fee of US$75 or equivalent in UGX using the payment Procedure in the right panel.
  8. Applicants with academic documents prescribed in other languages other than English should be submitted to the School of Languages, Makerere University for translation into English.
  9. Applicants who obtained qualifications elsewhere other than Uganda should visit the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) website here for guidelines on Equating Academic Documents.
  10. Diploma/Degree holder’s applicants MUST attach certified photocopies of their academic transcripts issued by the awarding institutions when filling the online application.
  11. Applicants from countries where the language of instruction is not English are required to bring evidence of proficiency of English. However, Makerere University (School of Languages) conducts proficiency tests on request.
  12. Applicants wishing to be admitted to the Bachelor of Laws programme offered by Makerere University are required to take a pre-entry examination. View the detailed announcement.
  13. International students MUST present insurance certificates from a reputable insurance firm at the time of admission.So, the insurance firm should cater for any eventuality not Makerere University.
  14. The Academic Year normally starts in August every year.
